Technical Chief of Staff
About Blackwall
Blackwall is an AI-enabled cybersecurity and web infrastructure company building the next generation of web traffic management technology.
Following our recent $100 million Series C funding round at a $2.2 billion valuation, we're accelerating our global expansion and developing technology that transforms how internet traffic is managed and secured.
Our flagship product, GateKeeper, protects over 2.3 million websites and applications through more than 100 hosting and service partners worldwide. As automated systems and AI agents reshape the internet, we're building the infrastructure to manage this increasingly complex environment.
About the Role
We're looking for a technically strong, highly organised, and pragmatic individual to work directly with our CTO, helping translate technical priorities into coordinated execution across our engineering organisation.
This is not a traditional administrative or engineering management role. We're looking for someone who understands technology well enough to follow complex engineering discussions, communicate effectively with technical teams, and ensure decisions translate into clear actions and measurable progress.
You'll act as a trusted extension of the CTO, taking ownership of coordination, communication, documentation, and follow-through, allowing him to focus on technology, architecture, and the longer-term direction of our products.
The right person will combine technical credibility with exceptional execution skills, sound judgement, and the ability to get things done through others without relying on formal authority.
Role Details
Reports to: CTO
Location: Remote, within Europe
Engagement: Employment options in the UK, Spain, Germany, and Estonia; contractor arrangements elsewhere
Compensation: Based on experience and location
What You'll Be Doing
Work closely with the CTO to translate technical priorities, decisions, and objectives into actionable plans and clear ownership across teams.
Coordinate communication between the CTO, engineering teams, and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment and reducing unnecessary management involvement.
Follow up on engineering initiatives, monitor progress through tools such as Jira, identify blockers, and drive accountability for agreed deliverables.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, decision records, project updates, and other materials that support effective execution.
Facilitate engineering discussions, capture decisions, clarify next steps, and ensure commitments are followed through.
Proactively identify gaps, delays, dependencies, and communication issues, challenging teams constructively where needed.
Help establish lightweight processes and reporting practices that improve visibility without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
Act as a reliable point of contact for operational and coordination matters within the CTO's organisation.
What We're Looking For
Strong technical background, ideally with experience in software engineering, technical programme management, engineering operations, or a similar role within a technology-driven organisation.
Good understanding of web infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, software development, or related technical domains.
Ability to understand complex technical discussions, identify the key decisions and implications, and communicate them accurately to different audiences.
Demonstrated experience coordinating technical teams, managing dependencies, and driving execution across multiple stakeholders.
Excellent written communication, documentation, organisation, and follow-through.
Confidence to challenge delays, clarify responsibilities, and hold people accountable without creating unnecessary friction.
Strong judgement, discretion, maturity, and a pragmatic approach to solving problems.
Ability to operate independently while remaining closely aligned with the CTO's technical direction and priorities.
Experience in the following areas would be particularly valuable:
Cybersecurity, bot mitigation, fraud prevention, web application security, or internet infrastructure.
Engineering project delivery, technical programme management, or software development lifecycle coordination.
Jira, Confluence, GitLab, or similar engineering collaboration tools.
Working directly with senior technical leaders in fast-growing technology companies.
We're particularly interested in people who understand the difference between supporting technical leadership and trying to replace it. You should be comfortable asking the right questions, bringing structure to complex discussions, and ensuring decisions are executed without needing to own every technical decision yourself.
Why Join Blackwall?
Work directly with the CTO and gain broad exposure to the technology, engineering organisation, and strategic direction of a global cybersecurity company.
Make a tangible operational impact, helping a growing engineering organisation execute more effectively.
Join at a defining stage of growth, following our $100 million Series C and expansion into new markets and technologies.
Take ownership of a high-trust role with meaningful responsibility, autonomy, and direct access to senior leadership.
We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and welcome applications from candidates with different backgrounds and experiences.
